Romania wins Olympic gold in women’s vault

The Romanian gymnast Sandra Izbasa won on Sunday the gold medal in the women’s vault final, making this the eight medal for the Romanian delegation and the second gold in the London Olympic Games.

Izbasa became Olympic champion with a score of 15,191, while the US and Russia came second and third with 15,083 and 15,050. This is her second medal in London, after bronze in the team gymnastics final.

Izbasa, 22, has also won the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics floor final at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Romania ranks 16th out of 56 countries with 8 medals. Gold was claimed by Romanian shooter Alin Moldoveanu in the men’s 10m Air Rifle and Sandra Izbasa in vaulting. Silver was won by Alina Dumitru and Corina Caprioru in judo, Roxana Cocos in weightlifting, and the men’s team sabre. Bronze went to the women’s gymnastics team and to Razvan Marin in weightlifting.
