Romania is intending to acquire, in the coming years, a satellite that would offer paid communication services for both public and private sectors, according to Razvan Cotovelea, minister for Communication and Information Society.
“We will start planning its development by the end of the year or in the first semester of next year: we will decide what kind of satellite we need, what kind of capacity it will have and what costs it entails. We want it to be profitable, we don’t just want to be able to say that Romania has it own satellite“, according to Cotovelea.
The official added that in the case of Azerbaijan, it would take 3-4 years to place a satellite of average capacity in orbit.
“Depending on performance, a satellite costs between several dozens and several hundreds of euro” Cotovelea added.
