Romania sends 100 athletes at the European Youth Olympic Festival

Between February 17-22, Romania will participate with a delegation of 100 athletes and coaches in the 2013 winter edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). The event will take place in Brasov County. The IOC President Jacques Rogge will attend the opening ceremony.

“We are in the home stretch, with the most important operations currently taking place. We are purchasing the supplies for the contest, setting up the equipment. The month before the start of the competition will be a very difficult period, but I am sure we will manage to solve all the problems (…),” said Ioan Dobrescu, the secretary general of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR).

1,570 athletes from 45 countries will participate at this event, the biggest sports competition held in Romania after the 1981 Universiade.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for February 17, will be attended by many personalities from Romania and abroad, including the President the European Olympic Committees Pat Hickey, but also personalities such as the Romanian President, the Prime Minister and ministers from the Cabinet.

At this competition, Romania will take part in the ski jumping, biathlon and cross-country skiing competitions.
