Romania National Radio Orchestra to play for the first time in Chisinau

On the celebration of the 85th Romanian National Radio anniversary, the Romania National Radio Orchestra will perform in a concert at Chisinau’s National Palace on March 3, starting 18.00.

The concert is part of the 47th “March Charm” International Music Festival organized by the Moldovan Ministry of Culture, an international event where major artists from Europe and Asia are invited. This year’s event highlights a prestigious anniversary celebration, the 85th anniversary of Radio Romania and the founding of the National Radio Orchestra. The only Romanian public radio branch abroad, Radio Chisinau was inaugurated on October 1939 under the name Radio Bessarabia, and after a long pause, it started broadcasting on December 1, 2011, as Radio Chisinau.

The concert will be conducted by conductor Yuri Botnari of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, who is also a voting member of the Grammy Academy. He studied at the Sankt-Petersburg Conservatory and completed his studies at the Moscow State Conservatory. Conductor Yuri Botnari was born in Chisinau and raised into a Romanian-Russian family, has Romanian citizenship and also a rich artistic activity in Russia as well.

The program includes Tchaikovsky – Symphony no 5, Rachmaninoff – Concert no 2 for piano and orchestra and Enescu –Romanian Rhapsody no 1. Pianist Vladimir Ovchinnikov is the special guest at the concert. He was invited to perform in London before Queen Elizabeth II, and awarded by Vladimir Putin the title of People’s Artist of Russia.
