Romania must close by 2018 all unprofitable energy capacities and the Romanian authorities will have difficulties in persuading the EU that they are not trying to circumvent the rules, as they have a low credibility, according to the president of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chiritoiu.

According to Mediafax, he mentioned at ZF Power Summit about the EUR 1 billion loss registered last year by Hunedoara Energy Complex, which can be considered state aid.

“(…) It won’t be easy to convince them that we need a capacity that produces electricity at RON 300, when the energy price is RON 100,” added Chiritoiu.

Present at ZF Power Summit, Energy minister Andrei Gerea said the state is trying to bail out Oltenia and Huneadoara energy complexes, which are currently undergoing a difficult situation.
