Ringier launches sports website at end-May

Swiss media group Ringier will launch the online sports publication SportNews.ro at the end of May, according to paginademedia.ro, which quotes Mihnea Vasiliu, general manager Ringier Romania.

The sports team from Libertatea tabloid will be in charge of the content of the new website, together with other journalists who used to work at Evenimentul Zilei.

“We have additional sports content which on the Libertatea website was not sufficiently well valorized. (…) We needed a new content vertical,” said Vasiliu. “We want to do a serious sports site that will compete with the others. We aim for Top 4,” he added.

Approximately 10 people will be working for the new Ringier website.

The sports department from Libertatea and the online project will be coordinated by Mihai Toma.
