Simona Halep will climb an extra position in the WTA ranking next week, becoming the 4th best female tennis player in the world.
Simona will receive 60 points by entering directly in the “Premier 5” tourney in Rome. The difference between Halep and Victoria Azarenka as of now is 21 points, but the Russian player will not play at Rome.
Petra Kvitva, the only other tennis player that could have surpassed Halep in the WTA ranking if she reached the Rome finals, was eliminated by Shuai Zhang.
4th position in the WTA is the best performance ever obtained by a tennis player from Romania. What is even more impressive is that a year ago Simona Halep wasn’t even in the top 20, highlighting her record-breaking climb in the WTA.
