Recolamp has collected 520 tons of lighting equipment waste last year, up 350 percent compared to the waste quantities managed by the association in 2011.

In 2012, Recolamp represented 145 compliant Romanian lighting equipment producers who transferred their legal obligation regarding the waste management of electrical and electronic equipment to the association.

“In alignment with the regulations provided by the HG 1037/2010, Recolamp is fulfilling its obligations by reaching the target of 40 percent collection rate. We have started this ‘journey’ in 2007 and these 5 years of investments and continuous growth assured us today the premises for reaching our objectives. For 2012, the strategy was to increase the collection for both luminaires and lamps, where luminaires have economic value, so our partner collectors are more motivated to identify them. Also, we have continued to invest towards collecting higher quantities of waste lamps. For what concerns this type of hazardous waste, the collection is much more challenging, the infrastructure still needs to be developed, the end-users still need to be informed about the necessity of properly managing it ” declared Bela Kovacs, general manager of Recolamp.

Last year Recolamp had an income of RON 6.12 million (approximately EUR 1.42 million) representing the Visible Fee of 0.9 RON (plus VAT) applied to 6,800,231 pieces of lighting, according to company estimates.

The main focus of the Association in 2012 was the development and implementation of projects for increasing collection. The major areas of interest were: activating the locations that have a signed protocol with Recolamp for the free pick-up of waste lamps, to actually collect selectively and hand in the waste and identifying new relevant waste generators.

Recolamp was founded by General Electric, Osram Romania and Philips Romania.
