Recolamp has collected and recycled more than 245 tons of lighting equipment waste in the first 8 months of 2012, up 170 percent y-o-y, the NGO announced.
Recolamp is a non-profit organization founded by General Electric Hungary ZRT, Osram Romania and Philips Romania whose mission is to take over from the producers their responsibility regarding the lighting equipment waste management and the collection and recycling of the economic bulbs and fluorescent tubes in safety conditions.
Last year the organization collected 150 tons of lighting equipment waste.
“In 2011, compared to 2010, we have witnessed a drop of 10 percent of the lighting market. Yet, with lower income, we have been able to increase our collection and recycling results, by more than 65 percent, ending the year with 150 tons of waste administrated by Recolamp. We have continued to maintain the accelerated ascendant trend and we are proud to announce that in the first 8 months of 2012, we have already overcome 245 tons” said Bela Kovacs, General Manager of Recolamp.
For the remaining of 2012, Recolamp says it will invest furthermore in improving its results towards assuring increased quantities of lighting equipment waste properly managed. “The awareness campaigns dedicated to the large public and to the waste generators, such as private companies and public institutes, will continue to strengthen the message that with the support of Recolamp, the recycling of lamps is free of charge and easy to do in Romania,” said company representatives.
Last year Recolamp reported 125 participants to the collective scheme that have declared to put on the market 6,673,101 units of lighting equipments. The total amount of Visible Fee administrated by the association has been RON 6,005,817 which was used for the building and administrating of a national infrastructure that will ensure the collection and recycling of waste lamps equipment.
