Ready to wear: Romanian Design Week

Newsroom 15/05/2014 | 14:25

As many as 150 confirmed designers and over 350 works and projects will reflect this year’s theme of Romanian Design Week: design in public space. The major exhibitions focus on architecture, interior design and urbanism, fashion, graphics, advertising and branding, lifestyle and product design, an event that will take place at the Palace of the National Chamber of Commerce in Bucharest, between May 16-25.

All the works in the exhibition and the 60 side events of the 2014 Romanian Design Week (RDW) were selected following a call for proposals conducted earlier this year by a committee of curators including Adrian Soare (architect partner, SYAA), Costin Popescu (managing partner, CAP), Domnica Margescu (fashion director) and Maurice Munteanu (fashion editor, Elle), Mihai Gurei (creative director and owner, Intro) and architect Attila Kim, also responsible for the exhibition concept and design.

The adjacent events have been grouped according to their type: Design Expo involving mainly exhibitions; Design Talks with conferences and debates organized by creative entities, whether designers, studios or concept stores; Design Happens with events in public spaces, interactive workshops and parties; Design Sells involving fairs and sales events and also places promoting Romanian design throughout the year; and Design Kids with a treasure hunt and other interactive educational programs. This year, a brand new event is being organized as part of RDW, the trendiest evening of the year: Fashion’s Night Out. It will trace the most glamorous route via fashion concept stores and designer showrooms in Bucharest including Adelina Ivan, MURMUR, Band of Creators, EVA, Ioana Ciolacu, Studio Lena Criveanu, Valentina Vidrascu, Carmen Secareanu, Molecule F by Night, RO Select and Irina Marinescu on the night of May 20.

The entire program of the event can be seen here.
