Putin congratulates Iohannis; launches appeal for “constructive” Russian-Romanian relations

Vladimir Putin, president of the Russian Federation, congratulated president elect Klaus Iohannis this week for his victory in the November election, taking the opportunity to highlight Russia’s desire for constructive relations with Romania.

Putin’s message was posted on the Russian Embassy’s Facebook page.

“Please receive my congratulations on the occation of your election in the position of President of Romania. I would like to confirm our interest in developing constructive Russian-Romanian relations as well as biletarl collaboration with mutual benefits in different fields. I wish you health, goodwill and success in your political activity”.

Earlier in the month, Russia’s spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Aleksandr Lukasevici, also sent congratulations, while stressing that maybe with a new president, Russian-Romanian relations can be rebooted, after the break cause by Bucharest’s attitude.

“We hope we can leave behind us the pause in relations cause by Romanian authorities’ attitude, which criticized Russia’s policies in the context of the Ukainian crisis and other international affairs”, Lukasevici said, quoted by Mediafax.
