Profi will have a new general director, starting with January

Daniel Carstea, operations director for retailer Profi, will take over the position of general manager on January 1, 2015 from Pawel Musial, who’s been in charge of the retail network since it was taken over by Enterprise Investors in 2010.

That is also the year when Daniel Cirstea started his career at Profi, as director of acquisitions, after which he was appointed commercial director. Prior to this, Cirstea had worked for other retailers, such as Artima or Carrefour.

Polish Enterprise Fund VI (PEF VI) controls 100 percent of Profi since 2010, when the private equity fund acquired the chain in a EUR 66 million transaction. The capital increase financed the accelerated expansion of the company through new store openings and the acquisition of smaller supermarket chains in the country.

Pawel Musial will retain his membership on Profi board.

“I believe that Profi belongs to Romanians and that the Romanian management team is sufficiently strong today to assume complete leadership”, Pawel Musial said.

Profi continued its sustained growth for the fourth consecutive year, ending 2013 with 1,456 mil. lei in net turnover, by 26 percent more than the previous year, the company announced in June.

Profi opened 71 new stores in 2014, reaching a network of 275 and plans to open at least just as many next year to continue the network’s aggressive expansion designed to bring the stores even closer to the consumer while offering them modern, civilized premises for consumption.

With more than 5500 employees now and in excess of 6000 at the end of the year, Profi is Romania’s second largest modern retailer after Mega Image.
