Sales in Porsche, the German sports car marker, soared by 35 percent in Romania to 138 cars last year, sustained by improved results in the Cayenne and the Carrera models. This was the second best year for the company after historic sales in the booming years 2007-2008.

The leading model was Cayenne, the SUV developed by Porsche, whose sales rose by 48 percent to 102. Sales in the Carrera model added 45 percent last year.

“2012 proved to be a very good year for the luxury car segment in Romania,” said Dana Cortina, general director Porsche Inter Auto Romania.

Porsche said it was the first company whose sales have returned to pre-recession level. The car marker aims to set a new sales record this year and plans to deliver over 150 cars.

Cortina said this year’s launch of the Cayenne S Diesel and Cayman models is set to support higher sales.

Worldwide sales of Porsche added 18.7 percent to 141,075 cars last year. In the last three years, the company increased its car deliveries by 83.9 percent.
