Ponta: Special construction tax will be cut from 1.5 to 1 pct

The special construction tax will be cut from 1.5 to 1 percent of the construction’s value and collected revenues will be at the local authorities’ disposal, instead of heading into the budget, prime-minister Victor Ponta announced on Thursday.

“I want us to cut the special construction tax and we can afford a reduction from 1.5 percent to 1 percent and all the collected revenues to go into the local budget. This way, there are higher chances of development and the local budget means waterworks, roads, plumbing and schools”, according to Ponta.

The official added that the change will be made following a point of view required by the Parliament and he asked the resort minister to implement this decision.

The tax was introduced earlier this year, after being suggested for the first time in 2012. The tax is applied to constructions which previously fell out of the fiscality range, namely poles, ramps, concrete platforms etc.

Estimates indicate that the state will receive RON 1,5 billion from the special construction tax this year.
