Ponta on Q1 2014: Preliminary data indicates a 3.7 percent GDP growth

Preliminary data on the first quarter of 2014 indicates an economic growth of 3.2 percent, according to Victor Ponta, who made the announcement on television for Romania TV.

“This year, for the first quarter numbers already indicate a growth of 3.2 percent”, Ponta said.

Victor Ponta is confirming what he previously mentioned in the previous week at the weekly meeting of the government, when he said that Romania records an economic growth for the first quarter, especially in industry, and higher collections to the budget than last year.

‘The minister of finances and the minister of budget will show that the first quarter certifies economic growth, growth in industry especially, which allow us to be optimistic and for 2014, higher collections than in 2013, but lower than in the plan, but there are also lower expenses, but essentially it is to reach our objectives for this year’, the prime minister said then

BNR recorded consolidate budget revenues of RON 48.8 million, representing 7.4 percent of GDP, up 3.8 percent on the year. The budget deficit after Q1 of this year was reduced at 0.14% of GDP, against 0.67% 0f GDP over the same period of last year, according to the information published on Friday by the Ministry of Public Finances (MFP).

Monday morning, PM Victor Ponta said that the budgetary execution for Q1 is satisfying and based on economic data, they can lead to cutting back CAS.
