Poland’s cultural surprises for Bookfest 2014

Under the slogan “Quo vadis Polonia? To the next Nobel”, Romanian readers will be introduced to Poland’s most famous writers such as writer Danuta Walesa, the wife of former legendary leader Lech Walesa, Pawel Huelle, presenting his second book in Romanian, I was Lonely and Happy, and Janusz Leon Wiśniewski who will talk about his novel Loneliness on the Net. 19 Polish books will be launched at this edition of Bookfest.

“Romanian public is already familiar with Poland’s writers, from the books of Sienkiewicz to those of the contemporary writers”, said Leszek Bialy, the deputy director of the Polish Cultural Institute in Romania at the press conference.

Poland will present its best cultural productions from literary stories to social activism, visitors being able to discover names like Malgorzata Rejmer, author of the report “Bucharest. Dust and blood”, writer Pawel Huel, one of the most important contemporary writers in Poland, which will be published the second volume in the Romanian language, “I was alone and happy”, writer Janusz Leon Wisniewski , whose novel Loneliness on the Net”  was already translated into many languages. ​

Dorota Maslowska, the postmodernist author of the novel ” Snow White and the Bolshevik Red , whose appearance transformed Polish literature, sparking a scandal and became a bestseller, will promote the Romanian edition of this book and also will participate at the reading-show “Between us is everything fine”, and also will perform with her band of electro-punk club in a concert held in Eden club.

Polish poetry will be represented by Ryszard Krynicki and Wojciech Bonowicz.

Irena Kozminski, social activist and the initiator of the campaign “All Poland reads to children”, will present this event in Bucharest, too, and Aleksandra Malecki will try to predict the future of literature in the internet world, using multimedia techniques and the permanent crisis of reading.

Film projections about Nobel Prize winners Henryk Sienkiewicz (1905), Władysław Reymont (1924), Czesław Miłosz (1980) andWisława Szymborska (1996) will also be screened.

The event will take place at Romexpo, between May 28 – June 1. Admission is free of charge.
