Dan Mihalache has been fired from the position of deputy secretary general for the government, according to Mediafax. Mihalache, who was declared incompatible with public office by the National Integrity Agency (ANI) last week, was sacked for the comments he made to a statement of US ambassador Mark Gitenstein, said sources cited by Mediafax.
After the US ambassador said any attempt to change the ANI law would be a very bad idea which could put at risk the strategic partnership between Romania and the USA, Mihalache commented that if this partnership depends on ANI than “we are better off without it”.
PM Victor Ponta took the decision to fire him after talks with the president of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and coalition partner Crin Antonescu.
Ioana Lambru (pictured) was appointed Mihalache’s replacement. Aged 27, she is the former chief-of-staff part of the cabinet of PNL general secretary Radu Stroe. She held this position between 2009 and 2011. Lambru graduated from the Economics Faculty part of the Romanian-American University in Bucharest four years ago.
