More than 105,000 Romanian tourists spent RON 31.2 million (EUR 7.07 million) on Easter holiday accommodation and catering services throughout the country.

The most popular were the boarding houses, with over 65,000 clients, according to data processed by the Federation of the Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR) and quoted by Agerpres. Thus,  the rustic boarding houses were preferred as well this year. The most popular destinations were Bran-Moeciu, Bucovina, Vrancea, Sibiu, Maramures and Buzau. They offered 75,000 places, and 65,000 of them were occupied. Offers included traditional products, outdoor parties, promenades in carriages and interactive workshops for decorating Easter eggs. Overall, these rural area facilities cashed in RON 19.5 million (EUR 4.4 million) for food and lodging only.

Following were the mountain resorts, with the Prahova Valley leading as usual. They offered 30,000 places and sold 22,000 for RON 6.6 million (EUR 1.5 million).

Romanians were also attracted by the small tariffs of the balneal resorts, who sold 18,000 of the 28,000 available, for nearly RON 4.9 million (EUR 1.1 million), according to the FPTR.

Seaside hotels, although not a traditional destination for Easter, sold only 300 places (mostly in Mamaia) of the 2,800 available, even with trips to Dobrogea monasteries added to the packages.

Accommodation facilities in the Danube Delta offered 600 places with full service, but only sold 300.

Occupancy rates ranged from 86 percent in rural areas down to 73 percent in the mountains, 64 percent in urban areas, 50 percent in the Danube Delta and 10 percent on the seaside.

The offers went from tourist packages of rural bed & breakfast to city breaks, very suitable for the short Easter holiday. As many as 136,400 beds are now available in Romania’s tourist accommodation facilities.
