The new departure terminal of the Henri Coanda International Airport (Otopeni) in Bucharest will be officially opened on November 6 following a EUR 52 million extension project, Valentin Iordache, the communication director of the Bucharest Airports National Company announced this Wednesday.
Following this investment, the airport’s departures terminal will increase its surface by an additional 19,500 sqm from the present 20,000 sqm, 52 new check-ins will be added to the existing 52 and 8 new boarding gates will be opened, according to Agerpress.
The extension will enable the airport to process twice as many flights and reduce congestion said Iordache.
After low cost flights were transferred from Baneasa to Otopeni this March, traffic on Otopeni increased by 30 percent for outgoing flights and 45 percent for incoming.
