Orange offers users of any mobile network in Romania access to its Wi-Fi hotspots

Orange Romania offers access to its hotspots via the Passpoint technology, which the company introduced for the first time on the Romanian market.

The Passpoint technology, that is compatible with Orange’s Wi-Fi network, allows users  access without entering their username and password, only by using their SIM cards, therefore the technology allows to users to connect automatically.

Devices that are compatible with this technology are iOS devices and certain Samsung devices on Android can connect automatically to any Orange hot spot if they choose SID Orange Mobile Wi-Fi.

Devices that are not compatible with Passpoint but support the protocol EAP-SIM/AKA can connect if they select manually this type of authentication from the first attempt to connect to the network.

The service is not available only for Orange customers: any mobile telephony user, irrespective of their network, can connect free of charge to the Orange Wi-Fi hotspots for two hours. The authentication is made via the portal and the user receives the password via SMS.

In the case of Orange clients, the access is unlimited via the Passpoint technology.

Recently, Orange announced it will be hiring another 300 people for an IT center that will be providing services for all the companies in the France Telecom group, in order to optimize operations.

“We have made the decision to expand the number of employees in Romania, in spite of the difficult financial context. Apart from the 2,700 people working at Orange, we will gradually hire other 300 in an IT services center,” said Olaf Swantee, executive vice-president of France Telecom, for Ziarul Financiar.

Meanwhile, worldwide, the company has been hit by an epidemic of suicides as ten employees of Orange have taken their lives in the space of seven weeks, raising new questions about a company afflicted by an alleged “suicide epidemic” four years ago, writes The Independent.

Orange has plans to slash its workforce by almost a third in the next six years, according to the same publication.
