Telecom operator Orange Romania, in collaboration with Parrot, has announced that it has introduced in its offer two mini-drones, the Rolling Spider and Jumping Sumo, which can be controlled on the smartphone or tablet, using the FreeFlight 3 free app for iOS, Android, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices.

The Rolling Spider  weighs only 55 grams and can move on the ground, walls and even ceiling. The snapshots it takes are stored in a 1GB flash memory and can be later transferred on the computer.  It can detect when it is thrown into the air and starts automatically. The Rolling Spider has 8 minutes autonomy and runs on Litiu-Polimer rechargeable battery of 550 mAh.

The Jumping Sumo is very mobile, and can travel at maximum speed of 2 m/s inside or outside the house, as well as turn 180 degrees. It has retractable wheels and allows to program a route. The Jumping Sumo has 20 minutes autonomy and can jump up to 80 centimeters. The images are sent directly to the screen of the smartphone or tablet, and it can take pictures or videos that it can store on a connected micro-USB.

“In February 2011, we introduced in our offer The AR Drone, the first quad-copter controlled from a distance with the help of an integrated Wi-Fi system, and we thus launched a new range of products that combined innovating technologies to offer new entertainment options to our customers. The Rolling Spider and Jumping Sumo, the new generation of mini-drones, completes the existing offer of ultra-technological intelligent toys, attractive for both teenagers and adults,” said Alexandra Faciu, senior product manager.

The two drones will be available both in the Orange store and in the online store at the price of EUR 169 for Parrot Jumping Sumo and EUR 109 for Parrot Rolling Spider.
