The process of selecting a private sector manager for state-owned airline Tarom will have to be resumed after Austrian Heinrich Vystoupil has given up the position, the company has announced. Until a new appointment will be made, Sorin Georgescu will serve as interim.
“The board of administration will appoint in the shortest time a new CEO from the list of candidates selected by the Minister of Transport’s consultants,” reads Tarom’s press release.
Vystoupil refused the position soon after being appointed on October 17, following contractual disagreements. He also stepped down as member of the board of administration. Vystoupil is a former head of the Austrian Airlines representative office for Romania and the Republic of Molodova.
The other board members are Dumitru Prunariu (retired Romanian astronaut), Dan Pascariu (president of Unicredit Tiriac bank), Lucian Isar (former environment minister), Marius Ghenea (businessman, owner of online stores PC Fun and PC Garage), Ciprian Ladunca and Valentin Macec.
The members of the Tarom’s board of administration were recruited following the government’s agreement with the IMF to appoint private managers for 10 state owned transport companies, including Tarom. A consortium comprising of professional services firm PwCRomania, law firm D&B David si Baias and headhunting firm George Butunoiu Group was selected to provide consultancy services for the recruitment of private managers.
Tarom is the first state-owned company in Romania for which private sector management was selected.
