Taiwan-based notebook manufacturer Asus showcased in Romania its latest range of notebooks equipped with 4th generation Intel Core processors. The new range comprises mainstream but also flagship models, some of which are already available on the Romanian market while others will hit the online and offline retailers’ stores by October.

Currently, Asus is the leader on the notebook segment in Romania, Asus representatives told Business Review. The company will come up with other new product launches in the last quarter of the year.

The ASUS VivoBook S551 with touch targets a young audience who do not have very high financial resources but want to use their laptop for multimedia. The VivoBook S551 runs on Windows 8. It measures 22.5 mm in thickness and comes with NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M graphics and up to 6 hours of autonomy. The VivoBook series will be available starting with September, Asus officials told BR. The Vivobook S301 and S551 can start from RON 3,099 and can reach up to RON 4599 (VAT included).

The N multimedia models with Windows 8 target early adopters who are willing to invest in hardware. This model includes the SonicMaster Premium and NVIDIA GeForce graphics, and is equipped with non-glare screens. The N550 and N750 are the first notebooks that come with four loudspeakers that render surround sound at cinema-like quality. This notebook series comes with two ventilation areas while the Super Hybrid Engine II prolongs the autonomy and makes it possible to start the notebook while in stand-by in two seconds. The multimedia N550 & N750 laptops can sell between RON 4,499 and RON 6,299 (VAT included). Asus officials told BR that the multimedia N750 model is already available on the Romanian market.

The ASUS ROG G750 model created for gamers comes with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 700M graphics and a wide range of connectivity options, including the Intel Thunderbol which allows to transfer data at speeds of up to 10GB/s. Storing options include hard disk with up to 1.5 TB capacity and SSD units of up to 256 GB. The gaming notebook G750 is already available in Romania in various configurations and sells at prices between RON 5,199 and RON 11,999 (VAT included).

The Asus X is the mainstream series range which comes with Intel Core processors and NVIDIA GeForce 700 graphics, and is available in numerous configurations. The Super Hybrid Engine II technology allows users to start the notebook from sleep mode in just two seconds. The X models includes the SonicMaster which makes the sound clearer and the Splendid feature which optimizes the images and improves their clarity, and are equipped with touchpads with the Smart Gesture technology. The X450 and X550 models also include the IceCool technology which keeps the temperature low in the palm- rest area. The X550 will be available on the Romanian market starting October.

The current generation of the Asus notebooks will co-exist on the retailers’ shelves with these newly launched models until the available stocks run out and then will be replaced by the new models.

In the tablet category, Asus announced that it will come up with several new launches.

“The ME172V was our first attempt to enter the mainstream market but we did not position it in the best way. This time we are coming up with the Memopad HD7 version ME173X which will enter the stores at a price of RON 700 and be available in vivid colors. Young people will be the target,” said Asus officials. Furthermore, the best laptops for streaming online classes also include additional features that make them better than laptops of other brands. The ME173X is a 7 inch HD tablet with Quad-Core processor and two cameras of 1.2 MP and 5 MP, respectively.

Also, the Asus Fonepad ME371MG which is currently selling very well in the stores of the telecom operators, will soon be replaced with the Asus Fonepad ME372CG.

The Asus Fonepad Note FHD6 with Intel Atom Z2580 and 2GB of RAM will hit the shelves at the beginning of October at the latest at prices between RON 1,600 and RON 1,700.

In the last quarter of the year, the company will also launch a cheaper Fonepad equipped with Qualcomm processor that will sell at RON 999.

Asus representatives said the company has a top position on the tablet market but the Romanian market has certain specific aspects. “First of all Samsung has a large market share in Romania and there are also the local brands that practice very aggressive prices and have a rather high market share,” said Asus officials.

Asus has 20 sales& marketing employees in Romania as well as a support center.
