Netopia mobilPay: Over 1.5 million Romanians paid online by card in 2012

More than 1.5 million Romanians made 6 million online transactions using a card in 2012, according to estimations of Netopia mobilPay.

“Last year, the number of Romanians who paid online by card was 1.5 million, up by approximately 85 percent compared to 2011, while the market grew by 58 percent to over 6 million transactions during this period,” said Antonio Eram (in picture), CEO and founder of Netopia mobilPay.

The previous year, the number of people who paid for their purchases online via card amounted to around 850,000.

The total volume of online shopping reached EUR 260 million in 2012, up 30 percent on the revenues made in 2011. The average transaction was around EUR 43.

“As far as the transactions made in 2012 are concerned, significant growth of over 100 percent was seen in tourism. This was followed by fashion with an 80% hike, and telecom with 50 percent growth,” said Eram.
