National Institute of Statistics: Over 70 percent of households in urban areas have internet access

About 73.2 percent of households in urban areas have internet access, according to a press release from the National Institute of Statistics. Also, about 95.3 percent of internet connections are fixed broadband connections.

The Bucharest- Ilfov area has the highest internet access rate, in 72.5 percent of households, followed by Western and North Western regions with 58.3 percent and 56.9 percent of households, the South-East and the central regions, with 51.2 percent and 49.5 percent of households with internet access.

The lowest internet penetration rates are in the North-East (47.5 percent) and South- Muntenia (47.2 percent).

Fixed broadband connections predominate as far as household access is concerned, being present in 95.3 percent of households, followed by mobile broadband connections, in the case of 11.6 percent of households and narrowband connections (7.4 percent penetration).

The most used devices for going online were feature phones and mobile phones in proportion of about 61.8 percent followed by portable computers in proportion of 47.5 percent.
