Gabriel Dumitrascu is the new president of the administration board of state-owned airline Tarom, replacing Dante Stein, according to Mediafax. Dumitrascu is also the manager of CN Aeroporturi Bucuresti, the company which manages the capital’s two airports.

The Transport Ministry changed in May the management teams of both companies.

The ministry replaced four of the six members of the administration board of Tarom. Manuel Donescu, Florin Luca, Constantin Sebesanu and Ovidiu-Petrisor Artopolescu lost their positions leaving Dante Stein, former advisor to the prime minister Victor Ponta, and Razvan Filipescu, president of the National Tourism Authority, on the board. The newcomers were Iulian Matache (state secretary with the Transport Ministry), Radu Mihai Fleanta (Tarom pilot), Toma-Dorin Cimpeanu (former state secretary) and Dan Valeriu Andrei (former director with the Transport Ministry).

At Aeroporturi Bucuresti, the Transport Ministry sacked yesterday the administration board and appointed a new interim one. Shortly afterwards, representatives of Fondul Proprietatea S.A. (FP), one of the company’s minority shareholders, criticized the change arguing that “there is strong evidence to suggest that the shareholders meeting was held without respecting the legal requirements regarding its calling and quorum”.

According to Mediafax, the members of the interim board on behalf of the Transport Ministry are: Dumitrascu, Iulius Plaveti (former ANRE president), Dragos Brezeanu, Gheorghe Catalin Radu (director at the Trasport Minstry), Dan Andrei (member of Tarom’s administration board) and Adrian Toma. FP can also appoint a member in the board but the seat has remained vacant as FP did not take part in the general shareholders meeting, according to Mediafax.

Tarom also underwent important management changes last November, when former president Dan Pascariu, Valentin Macec, Ciprian Ladunca, Marius Ghenea and Dumitru Prunariu were replaced, following conflict between the board members and the airline’s CEO, Christian Edouard Heinzmann. Pescariu said in February that the members who were dismissed in November have decided to sue the firm.

Tarom is the first state-owned company in Romania for which private sector management was appointed, as part of a deal with the International Monetary Fund.
