Misu Negritoiu gets appointed president of ESMA committee

The president of the Romania Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF), Misu Negritoiu, has been appointed as president of the committee for economic and market analysis part of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) for a two-year term. The decision was taken by the institution’s board of supervisors on September 24.

ESMA is an independent EU authority responsible for the regulation and supervision of capital markets.

The Committee for Economic and Market Analysis is composed of representatives of the competent authorities in the supervision of the capital market within the EU and benefit from the expertise of a group of professors of finance and economics of large European universities and analysts specialising in the field of financial markets. “The main lines of action on which the Committee focuses are the proactive identification and micro-prudential evaluation of developments and potential risks and vulnerabilities of financial markets, alongside the development of cost-benefit and impact analyses regarding initiatives of regulation and supervision of markets,” according to ASF data.

Established in 2011, ESMA is one of the pillars of the European System of Financial Supervision, in close cooperation with the European Banking Authority and with the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority.

Full member of ESMA, ASF is represented in the board of supervisors by its president and participates in regulatory activity by engaging in the activities of the standing committees and working groups.
