Mihai Daraban is the new president of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce

The head of the Constanta Chamber of Commerce, Mihai Daraban, is the new president of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), position left open after the former president, Mihai Vlasov was arrested.

Daraban acted as interim leader of the institution ever Vlasov had been suspended from his position, on April 11.

Daraban’s mandate as president is valid until December 2017, when Mihai Vlasov’s mandate was originally supposed to end.

“I was selected by my colleagues in the General Assembly today with 34 votes out of 39”, according to Daraban.

The new CCIR president left open a vicepresident position which was offered to Nicolae Tudorescu, president of the Mehedinti Chamber of Commerce and Portile de Fier general director. Tudorescu will join the other three vice presidents: Sorin Dimitriu, Ion Mocanu, Vasile Bar.

According to Darban, CCIR’s main objective is to become the Government’s partner in supporting the business community through legislative measures.

“We want to be dialogue partners and we hope to keep track of law projects that generate an impact on the business environment. (…) We also want to collaborate with employers’ associations to promote a healthy environment that sustains business in Romania”, according to the new CCIR president.
