Metrorex to spend EUR 440 mln on 51 new subway trains

Metrorex intends to buy as many as 51 new subway trains for the Drumul Taberei – Pantelimon line in a transaction estimated at RON 1.92 billion (EUR 439.5 million).

The subway operator is looking into purchasing between 43 and 51 trains with 258, 306 wagons respectively. There will be as many as 4 contracts over a period of seven years.

“The estimated frequency for subsequent contracts to be signed is every two years: in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The estimated lenghts for these contracts varies between 15 and 28 months. The estimated value of a contract: RON 396.69 mln minimum and RON 763.87 mln maximum”, according to an announcement from the company.

The overall value of the contract is estimated at RON 1.556 billion without VAT and will be financed through an external loan from BEI, guaranteed by the state, also likely to contribute with funds from the public budget.

Metrorex will hold an open auction, with the winners being decided depending on price (60 percent), technical performance (15 percent), delivery deadlines (12 percent), maintenance costs (8 percent) and guarantees (5 percent).

The deadline for submitting offers is August 18.
