The Spanish minister for Foreign Affairs, Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, has appointed Ramiro Fernandez Bachiller as Romania’s ambassador, an experienced diplomat that, at the moment, was ambassador in Special Mission-Director of the Consular Emergency Unit, writes The Diplomat Spain.
Fernandez Bachiller has been previously assigned to different countries and he served as ambassador in Gabon and ambassador in Special Mission for the European Presidency in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
One of the names considered to fill the position of mission chief in Bucharest was Pedro Calvo-Sotelo, parliamentary consultant for García-Margallo in his Cabinet, and the person who coordinated the reports of Foreign Affairs about Catalonia.
Bachiller will not replace anybody per se when he comes to Bucharest, given that the country has been without a Spanish ambassador since December, when Estanislao de Grandes was appointed as Argentine’s ambassador.
