Maxi Toys to open its first store in Romania on July 20

Maxi Toys, one of Europe’s largest toy retailers, has entered the Romanian market, through franchise held by distributor Nicoro Trading, and plans to open its first store locally in Bucharest-based shopping center Militari Shopping, on July 20 writes wall-street.ro.

Nicoro Trading owns the franchise for Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary and will develop the network, starting with the store in Military Which will cover 300 square meters. Nicoro Trading began its activities in Romania in 1994 and is one of the biggest toy distributors at a national level.

Maxi Toys will be competing directly with Noriel and Jumbo for its market share. Jumbo, the retailer who will take over 5 out of OBI’s 7 Romanian stores, entered the local market last year after opening units in Timisoara and Bucharest.

At a global level, Maxi Toys owns 280 stores in Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy etc and is a part of Blokker Holding consortium, alongside Intertoys and Bart Smit, two other toy brands with 500 stores between them.

R0mania’s toy market is expected to grow by 20 percent in 2014, given that companies in the field are investing more and more in marketing and promotions. The toy market could sales of EUR 120 billion, experts believe.
