Mamaia will turn into the European capital of sport for one day, namely on Sunday, March 29. The famous Romanian coastline resort will be hosting the Sand Marathon – the first and only sports event of its kind in Europe which held on sand – which is to be attended by hundreds of competitors, both in Romania and abroad.
According to a press release, the international event, now at its second edition, is co-organized by “SanaSport” Sports Association and Radio Constanta / Radio Vacanta in partnership with Constanta County Sport and Youth Directorate, Constanta City Hall, “Dobrogea Litoral” Water Basin Administration.
Over 300 amateur and professional athletes will line up in front of the Radio Constanta / Radio Vacanta headquarters, and will run 42.195 km (2 loops), 21 km (1 loop) or 10 km (1/2 loops).
The seafront event includes the “Family Run” race, of about 1 km, addressing parents and children and meant to bring them closer to sport. This race’s proceeds will go to a local organization that aims to support children with autism disabilities.
SanaSport is a non-governmental organization, founded in 2013, whose major objectives are promoting the importance of sport to society and improving the fitness and health of Constanta’s residents.
