Newsroom 26/04/2013 | 09:16

For a month now, Alice Tirsea is the Managing Director UCMS Group, but continues to be also the Managing Partner yourCOO, her personal project. BR talked with her about how management practice and theory developed in Romania since she started working in the domain and the new trends for managers.

What changes will occur in the UCMS Group Romania?

We have a long-established business and a stable portfolio. This year, five of our clients celebrated with us 10 years of collaboration. In this context, the “changes” that we have in mind are simple organic because I care very much for our internal organization in order to be more efficient. Also, we have in mind to increase the turnover and we can see the positive effects of some measures which we have taken some time ago.

What are the challenges for 2013 regarding UCMS Group Romania?

Our priority is the growth of the revenues and this is the direction we focus this year.

How has the management market changed since you first started out, ten years ago?

Ten years ago, I remember how the focus was on the manager’s ability to mobilize teams in order to cope with developers. The rapid rhythm in which all the companies were growing required great efforts until implementation. At that time, the management had to be very well organized and specialized in coordination and control. Today, details make the difference. When the competition is high and resources limited, this is the way to show your true management skills. Everything is important now, the mission, innovation, strategy, customer relationship management, team engagement, performance management, etc.

How do you characterize the Romanian management market?

I could say that the Romanian management market is in a continuous and rapid evolution and transformation. We have already recovered in one year what other countries assimilated in five years. It’s a shame that most of the time we do not appreciate our capacities and we are blaming managers for their left behind.

What are the main trends regarding the Romanian top management?

Probably the most important trend is developing the leadership skills. It fits very much in evolution I was talking about. We started to realize that it is necessary to shift from a directive management to a participative one. Coaching is another trend, which we consider a tool to develop leadership skills for top management.
