Ikea Romania had sales of RON 424.5 million (EUR 95.68 million) between September 2014 and August 2015, an increase of 12.3 percent year on year, Mediafax informs.
Most of Ikea’s sales (84 percent) were made by store furniture and decorations, the rest being generated by the restaurant and online shop.
Ikea Group’s retail division is represented in Romania by a store opened in Bucharest in 2007, and the group recently bought land for a second unit, also in Bucharest.
Ikea currently owns 18 furniture stores in China and 14 in Russia. The group has in Romania more than 20 suppliers, mainly producing sofas, armchairs, tables, chairs, baby items and ceramic products. Locally it has no production activities, though globally Ikea has such a division. More than 14,000 people work for them.
In July Ikea bought 33,600 hectares of forest in Romania, from a Swedish private company, making it the largest forest owner in Romania.
