The Ministry of Finances will grant a state aid of EUR 21 million to IBM Romania for the creation of 900 work places in the IT&C industry, which is part of a project of EUR 51.2 million, according to information posted by Ziarul Financiar.

“IBM Romania will receive EUR 21 million to develop a project in Bucharest and Brasov in activities of consultancy in the technology of information, based on the government decision 797 in 2012,” according to the Ministry of Finances, quoted by the publication.

The financing agreement was issued on July 5, 2013.

In April 2013, IBM signed an agreement with the Targu-Mures authorities regarding the opening of a research center in this city. The Transylvania Center of Excellence in Research was supposed to conduct research in domains such as health, pharma, nanotechnology, life sciences and smart cities.

However, it is not yet clear whether the aid granted by the Romanian state will go into developing this project.

Also, at the end of 2011, IBM announced the inauguration of the IBM Bucharest Systems Laboratory, the first location in Europe dedicated to developing and testing IBM hardware and software equipment. The 100 square meters laboratory was the base for 125 highly trained specialists to develop software products such as IBM Networking Operation System and VMready.
