Governing alliance dominates EU elections in Romania with 41 pct of votes. Who are the new MEP’s?

According to the Central Electoral Bureau, Romania had a 32.16 percent turnout for the election on Sunday, at closing time: 38.16 percent rural and 28.69 percent urban.  That is a higher percentage than in 2009 (27.21 percent) and 2007 (29.12 percent).

The highest vote turnout was registered in Olt – 46.57 percent, Ilfov – 42.26 percent, Mehedinti – 40.17 percent, Teleorman – 39.84 percent and Giurgiu 39.12 percent. The following counties recorded the lowest turnout: Maramures – 25.13 percent, Tulcea – 27.12 percent, Ialomita – 27.66 percent, Timis – 27.94 percent and Vaslui – 28.22 percent.

Exit poll results released on Sunday after voting booths closed indicated that PSD-UNPR-PC dominated the EU elections in Romania.

IRES Poll

The alliance formed between PSD, UNPR and PC was voted by 41 percent of Romanian citizens in the EU election on Sunday, followed by PNL with 14 percent and PDL with 10 percent. The IRES poll results, broadcast by DigiTV, further show that PMP obtained 6 percent of votes, Mircea Diaconu – 5 percent, PP-DD -4 percent and Forta Civica – 3 percent.

Operations Reasearch Poll

PSD, UNPR and PC obtained 42.2 percent of votes on Sunday, followed by PNL with 13.3 percent and PDL – 11.5 percent according to the Operations Research Poll ordered by Antena 3. Next up are PMP – 6 percent and UDMR – 6 percent. Mircea Diaconu, PP-DD and Forta civica have all >5 percent of votes.

Based on these results PSD-UNPR-PC wins 17 MEP mandates and its main competitors, PNL and PDL, 5 mandates each. PMP and UDMR will have two settle for two mandates, and another parliamentary seat will be filled by Mircea Diaconu.

The Operations Research poll took into consideration votes delivered until 19.00.

Curs Avangarde

The PSD-UNPR-PC coallition obtained 41.01 percent of votes registered at the EU election, followed by PNL with 14.92 percent and PDL with 11.82 percent, according to the CURS Avangarde exit-poll ordered by TVR1.

UDMR achieved 7.1 percent and PMP -6.7 percent. The next up is Mircea Diaconu with 5.91 percent, PP-DD – 3.45 percent, PRM -2.55 percent and Forta Civica – 2.11 percent.

Based on a simulation done by MEDIAFAX in accordance with exit-poll results, here are the likely candidates that will fill out the 32 seats Romania gets in the European Parliament.
