A GfK survey on Romanians’ eating habits places McDonald’s and KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) on the first positions in Top 10 Romanians’ most favorite places to eat when they are out.

Shaorma restaurants, pizzerias, Fornetti, independent fast-food restaurants, coffee shops / snack bars are also included in the Top, while Spring Time, Subway and Viva (in the OMV gas stations) rank the last positions.

50 percent of the participants to the GfK survey say that they went to a local shaorma restaurant over the past four weeks.

Fast-food restaurants are frequented mainly by men, while women opt rather for patisseries or pretzel places. Most of the customers of these locations are aged 25-34.

Patisseries are as popular as fast food restaurants in urban areas (with 50.000 to 200.000 inhabitants), while pizzerias are preferred in big cities with over 200.000 inhabitants.

The study also shows that only 2 percent of the Romanians dine out in the city on a daily basis. About 20 percent are dine out once to three times a week, men doing so to a greater extent than women.

The survey was conducted by GfK Romania on a sample of 1.000 respondents across the country, aged over 15.
