Russian gas giant Gazprom continues to deliver a lower quantity of natural gas to Romania than agreed, citing technical difficulties, the Romanian Department for Energy said Wednesday.

Currently, Romania imports just 0.2 million cubic meters /day through Gazprom, the daily requirement for a city the size of Botosani or Satu Mare.

“We’ve received official word from the Russian ambassador that the drop in deliveries is caused by certain technical difficulties, which manifested as a result of Gazprom’s effort to fill its deposits before the arrival of winter”, according to Razvan Nicolescu, delegate minister for energy.

Romania requires a daily quantity of 26 million cubic meters of gas, while internal production stands at 31 million cubic meters. National deposits have un billion more metric cubes then the quantity legally enforced by ANRE – 1,8 billion cubic meters.

All throughout last week Gazprom has been cutting back natural gas deliveries for Romania.
