Former president Basescu does not exclude possible illicit financing of his campaign

Former president Traian Basescu does not exclude the possibility of illegal financing of his campaign, saying he would regret it in case this happened.

“I would be sorry if my campaign was funded with money of questionable origin, but I do not exclude it. We have to change the party financing law,” said Basescu on Tuesday, according to Agerpres.

Full funding from the state budget would eliminate the problems of campaign sponsoring, he added.
