Radu Apostolescu (in picture), former co-founder of online retailer eMag, has invested in Abis Studio, a company specialized in the production of advertising and film. The value of the transaction is confidential.

“This investment is a very important stage and a sign of confidence for Abis Studio. The financing will support the development of the company over the next period for acquiring new equipment and technologies as well as growing the headcount, in order to diversify the services we offer,” said Gabriel Antal, founder and general manager Abis Studio.

From now on, the shareholders of the company will be Apostolescu (with a 45 percent stake), Gabriel Antal (40 percent stake) and Adriana Ionica (15 percent stake). The management structure of the company will remain the same. Apostolescu will get involved in the strategic decisions as a part of the board of administration without holding any executive position.

“I am content to join the company, especially since it has its activity in the areas in which I believe the most, communications and image combined with the latest technologies,” said Apostolescu.

Abis Studio was founded by Gabriel Antal and Adriana Ionica. The company has been providing services in advertising and film production for the local and international market for the past 18 years. The company has repeatedly partnered with large advertising agencies.

The first production of Abis Studio in cinematography is Domnisoara Christina (2013), rewarded with 3 Gopo trophies. Abis Studio provides post-production services for various Romanian and international productions, among which Romanian films awarded at Cannes in 2007 and Berlin in 2013.

In Romania, Abis Studio has worked with advertising agencies McCann Erickson, Publicis, Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDO, GMP, Papaya, Ogilvy, DDB and Young & Rubicam. Throughout its activity, Abis Studio developed projects for Orange Romania, Vodafone Romania, Coca-Cola, Nestle, L’Oreal, Raiffeisen Bank, Unicredit Tiriac Bank, CEC Bank, BCR, OMV Petrom, Carrefour, Procter&Gamble, Unilever Romania, Pepsico Romania, Sabmiller, Heineken Romania, UPC, KFC and Tuborg.

Internationally, the company ran its activities in countries like Turkey, Poland, Ukraine, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt and China.

Radu Apostolescu decided to exit eMag in June, thirteen years after co-founding the company. Apostolescu sold his 8.4 percent participation to the other eMag co-founder and currently general manager Iulian Staciu and Naspers group.
