US car maker Ford plans to halt production at its plant in Craiova, southern Romania, for eight days in the next two months citing poor market conditions, reports Mediafax newswire.

The company has already said it would stop car production for four days this month. The assembly line will be stopped for five days in March and for three days in April. The production of engines will not be stopped.

According to Mediafax newswire, Ford Romania has halted car production for around 35 days last year, while in engines it was stopped for seven days.

Ford makes in Craiova the B-Max, a mini multi-purpose vehicle. The company is also producing two gasoline engines EcoBoost of 1 and 1.5 liters, the latter fitted on cars made in Northern America and Asia.

A Ford Romania spokesperson said the company has flexible systems, allowing it to react quickly to market demand, which may also  include an increase in production.

Ford is set to partially transfer the production of Fiesta, a supermini model, from Cologne, Germany to Craiova in 2017, according to reports by German daily Bild, citing sources close to the firm.
