Ford builds engine no. 250,000 in Romania

Ford has built its 250,000 engine at its Craiova plant in Romania, according to a press release from the auto-producer. Engine number 250,000 is a 1.5 litre EcoBoost engine, 180 HP that will be shipped to United States to equip a Fusion model for an American customer.

Craiova Engine plant started the production in May 2012 with the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine, awarded for two years in a row as International Engine of the Year; in April 2013, Ford launched in Romania the production of the 1.5 litre EcoBoost engine.

Craiova Engine Plant plays a very important role in Ford’s global engine manufacturing footprint by supporting the strong global demand for Ford’s fuel efficient and low CO2 emissions vehicles” said John Oldham, the newly appointed Manager of Craiova Powertrains Operations.

Ford has also confirmed that later this year the Craiova made 1.5 litre EcoBoost engine will equip the world’s bestselling nameplate which is the Ford Focus. The first units of the engine will be shipped from Craiova to the Focus assembly plant in Saarlouis (Germany) in the second half of this year.

The Craiova Engine Plant employs currently aprox. 1,000 people who are working in two and three shifts to produce approx. 1,000 engines per day.
