“Faget Marathon”, former “Trail Running & MTB Marathon”, reaching its 4th edition, will be held this weekend in Cluj-Napoca.

Since the 1st edition, the number of participants to the largest such event in Transylvania has increased at least twice, to more than one thousand this year, according to Agerpres. Moreover, organizers will also hold a running competition on the same trail as the mountain bike marathon, with 250 runners already registered.

Currently, the event is the 4th largest in Eastern Europe, with high hopes of going up to the 3rd place.

He said that some years ago they could hardly attract 80-100 runners for a marathon competition, but this sport has recently attracted increasingly more fans in Romania. According to him, 80 percent of the runners are Romanians, most of them from Cluj County, but there are also participants from Moldova, Germany, Italy and Ukraine. Most of the foreign runners hail from Hungary.

Cyclists can choose between two tracks: a short one, of just 26 km, and a long one, of 54 km. Each trail comprises two kilometers of asphalted road, while the rest is forest path.

Prizes for the mountain bike competition vary between RON 400 and RON 600, and between RON 100 and RON 300 for the running competition. The prize pool is rounded up by sports products and items as presents.

The event is organised by the Clujul Pedaleaza association, with support from Banca Transilvania and Vodafone.
