The deadline for submitting the offers for attributing construction works of the national RO-NET telecommunications network should have expired on January 7.
However, the Romanian Ministry for Information Society has decided to postpone the deadline until January 20, at the request of the potential investors, according to Mediafax newswire.
The RO-NET project will be financed with EU funds, being estimated at approximately EUR 83 million (RON 369.5 million, VAT included). Following the tender, the Romanian state will award the contract for designing, building and running a national communications infrastructure which will supply communication services to poor areas in 35 counties.
“The works will be carried out with structural funds. The target localities are distributed across seven regions consolidated from the geographic and administration point of view. The sum for unforeseen expenses is RON 7,164,210, representing 2.46 percent of the estimated value of the contract,” according to the announcement published on the e-licitatie.ro website.
The winner of the tender will be able to run the network for 18 years, with the option to buy it afterwards.
The feasibility study was carried out by a consortium made up of Confero Finance and Cognos Business Consulting.
Aego Business Consulting and European Funds Invest will manage the project.
