Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU27 in September 2012, compared with the previous month, according to first estimates released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Compared with September 2011, production in September 2012 dropped by 2.6 percent in the euro area and by 5.8 percent in the EU27.
The largest decreases were registered in Portugal (-13.4 percent), Italy (-8.0 percent), Romania (-4.0 percent) and the United Kingdom (-3.0 percent) while the largest increases were reported in Slovenia (+17.1 percent), Germany (+2.7 percent) and Sweden (+1.0 percent), according to data from Eurostat, EU’s statistical office.
Compared with September 2011, production in September 2012 dropped by 2.6 percent in the euro area and by 5.8 percent in the EU27.
Building construction decreased by 2.3 percent in the euro area and by 2.5 percent in the EU27 this September compared o the previous month, after in August it increased by 0.8 percent and fell by 0.1 percent respectively. Civil engineering increased by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU27, after a 0.2 percent decrease and a 2.4 percent increase respectively in the previous month.
