Enel Green Power Romania, the renewable arm of Italian utility Enel, inaugurated last Friday a 70 MW wind park in Valea Nucarilor and Nufaru localities, Tulcea County, which became operational at the end of last year.

The utility has invested over EUR 330 million in Romania, reaching a wind installed capacity of 270MW last year. The company has 202 MW of wind projects in execution and 25 MW of small hydro projects until 2016.

The company has developed wind parks with total installed capacity of 244MW in the Tulcea County, southeast of the country, in the Dobrogea region. This area benefits from the strong winds coming from the Black Sea.

Apart from Dobrogea, Enel is constructing a 48 MW wind park in Caras Severin County, south west of Romania, in the Banat region. The area is close to the Danube. Already, 25 MW became operational in 2011, while the rest is still under construction. The company is also building a 119.6 MW wind farm in Constanta County.

Enel Green Power has around 50 employees and offices in Bucharest, Tulcea, Constanta and Moldova Noua.

Romania is the 10th most attractive destination for wind projects, along with Poland and Brazil, according to the May edition of the Renewable energy country attractiveness indices drawn up by Ernst & Young. Overall, Romania ranks 14th on the attractiveness of renewable investments.

The country had reached 1,252 MW of installed wind capacities this May, according to Translectrica, the grid operator. Romania’s total renewable energy capacities stood at 1,709MW.
