The Ministry of European Funds announced that Romania has received EUR 830 million from the European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, on Thursday, following a reimbursement request from 2013.

The EC has reimbursed EUR 900 million this year, mainly in the transport operational program (EUR 506 million) and the program designed to increase economic competitiveness (EUR 181 million). On the environment operational program the country has received EUR 124 million, while the technical assistance program got EUR 20 million from the EC.

“Receiving EUR 830 million in a single day represents an absolute record in the history of the attraction of structural and cohesion funds in Romania. This, under conditions that the sums received in each of the years 2009, 2010 and 2011 were smaller than the one collected today,” said Eugen Teodorovici, EU funds minister, in a statement.

The current absorption rate of EU funds stands at 34 percent, with the reimbursement requests hovering around EUR 6.5 billion.
