Demand for labor force has declined across Europe

Demand for new labor force has decreased by 4 percent across the entire European Union from Q4, 2011 to Q4, 2012, according to the findings from the European Vacancy Monitor published by the European Commission.

The profession with the highest growth in the number of employees was that of personal care medical assistants, due to the aging of the population, the progress of technology and the higher expectations of the population.

Demand for these professionals has increased by 2 percent annually between 2008 and 2012. In 2012, nearly 1 million people were hired in medical assistance.

Other hot professions are those of creators and analysts of software applications, administrative personnel, mining personnel, supervisors in the manufacturing and constructions industries as well as teachers.

In the fourth quarter of 2012 there were 2.0 million job vacancies in 19 countries of the European Union, 6 percent less than the same quarter in 2011.

Six countries showed increased job vacancies: Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, the United Kingdom and to a smaller extent the Czech Republic and Estonia.

Between the four quarters of 2012 and 2011, Romania posted growth over 5 percent in the overall job vacancies.

2. Financial professionals with 89,400 employees

3. Manufacturing laborers with 119,900 employees

4. Heavy truck and bus drivers with 172,900 employees

5. Electrical equipment installers with 153,200 employees

6. General office clerks with 67,400 employees

7. Painters, building structure cleaners and related trades workers with 40,000 employees

8. Mobile plant operators with 47,600 employees

9. Electronics and telecommunications installers and repairers with 24,500 employees

10. Rubber, plastic and paper products machine operators with 30,500 employees
