Gigi Caciuleanu’s latest performance, which tackles the question “are Romanians different?” is Folia, Shakespeare & Co. The choreographer and dancer presents a new vision of Romanians, with a show that puts the spotlight on national identity through the emblematic work of Shakespeare.

“I made a connection between Romanian playwright I.L.Caragiale and Shakespeare: he says to be or not to be while Caragiale says to be and to be”, said Gigi Caciuleanu at the press conference.

The premiere of Folia, Shakespeare & Co will take place on April 23-24, at the Metropolis Theatre, a space that the dancer always wanted to explore, but he didn’t have the chance until now. Other performances are scheduled for May and a national and international tour will start soon.

Folia, Shakespeare & Co is a performance made by Gigi Caciuleanu’s Romania Dance Company, who reunites some of the most talented Romanian artists of the moment, such as Ramona Bărbulescu, Richard Bovnoczki, Rasmina Călbăjos, Alexandru-Mircea Călin, Paul Cimpoieru, Relu Dobrin, Lari Cosmin Giorgescu, Lucile Julaud, Ştefan Lupu, Ioana Macarie, Ioana Marchidan, Cristian Nanculescu, Adrian Nour, Cristian Osolos, Arcadie Rusu, Diana Spiridon, Vanda Ştefănescu.

For this show, the décor and the costumes are made by Corina Gramosteanu, while the music was set up by composer Paul Ilea.
