Carmaker Dacia, owned by France’s Renault, has exported over 2 million vehicles through its logistical center in Mioveni since 2005, according to company officials.

The carmaker said that the activity of its plants and logistics platform generated 7.7 percent of Romania’s exports in 2012, making it the largest exporter on the local market.

Aside from cars, Dacia produces components for other plants belonging to Renault Group across the globe.

The company currently produces five models under the Dacia brand and the Renault Symbol, employing some 8,500 people.

According to data from the European Automobile Manufactuers’ Association (ACEA), Dacia sold 25,239 cars in May, a 16 percent gain on the same period of last year. During this period, its market share increased by 0.5 percentage points to 2.4 percent. The statistics refer to new registrations in the 29 European states, including 26 EU members and Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Renault reported a 17.5 percent drop in new registrations to 60,429 units in May against the same period of last year. Its market share fell by 0.8 percentage points to 5.8 percent.

The ACEA data further show that new car registrations fell by 47 percent in Romania to 4,107 units in May. Registrations across the region lost 5.9 percent in the same period.

Dacia also operates a mechanical and chassis plant, which has over 3,600 employees, on the Mioveni industrial platform. Around 70 percent of the output of the mechanical division is exported to other Renault plants.

The carmaker is feeding components to 13 plants operated by the Renault-Nissan Alliance through its logistics arm. Dacia has exported 7.5 million cubic meters of components, the equivalent of 3.4 million cars, since 2005.

The firm says that 500 trucks and 14-15 trains filled with cars leave the plant each week. ∫
